10 Elements and their Colors & Effects

The 10 Elements and their Colors And their Effects on Us

Research says color can absolutely affect your mood, behavior and stress levels. They influence the flow and amount of energy in our bodies. In healing, colors act as balancers: we administer the color(s) someone needs more of, or we give the opposite of the color someone has too much of.

However, true healing comes about when the root cause of the condition [illness is addressed and transformed]. If healing doesn’t go further than a mere relief or masking of the symptoms, then, eventually, the disease/illness will resurface and manifest itself within the body in one form or another.

Here is a list of colors used for acupuncture, their attributes and deeper meanings:

Aakaash (Space or Sky or Ether)[Physical](Element.1) – Violet or Purple

The color violet gives flexibility to the body. It provides softness, permeability and it makes you lighter.  The most scattered element.Flexibility means flexibility of muscles, skin, spine, joints and flexibility of your nature. It makes your skin soft, it maintains softness of each and every organ.
For  e.g. This makes you a soft spoken person.

Permeability means, the skin permits the air to come in and it permits waste fluid to go out of your body. You permit anything to enter your body or to excrete and leave your body. Whether you permit any new idea or not, that is the permeability of your mind. In other words Acceptance and Absorption. An Aakaash person can adjust himself anywhere, in any condition or situation, and they are open to new ideas and thoughts.

Less of Aakash means rigidness or stubbornness. So we can treat the person’s nature/body’s rigidity to flexibility.
If Aakash is excessive, it will create Flabbiness, Loose muscles. So tranquilizing helps here.

For eg: A paralytic patient may not be able to lift the arm and tranquilizing Aakaash can induce the appropriate strength to lift the hand. Similar with Abdominal  prolapse, megaly in Cardio, Liver,  Sagging of breasts. Loose muscles on Hips,  Prolapse of Uterus, etc.

Vayu (Wind)[Physical](Element.2) – Indigo (Dark Blue or Normal Blue)

VayuThe dark blue color has a drying effect and makes things rough, transparent, subtle, fine and fatigued. It gives vibration and clarity. Drying effect means it keeps your skin dry. It makes your nature, dry, rough but transparent. It gives cooling effect to inflammation, cools burning sensation and dries up wounds.

Vayu means movement – makes  things lighter. However, it is unstable, fickle and changes every moment. A Vayu person is best suited to give a start to anything e.g. new projects, however, they cannot bring continuity or stability. They can be bored easily and are easy to win. They are people who shift from one activity to other at the same time. They could also be workaholics and very active. They are good initiators. Clarity and transparency means whatever is inside is also on the outside. Vayu people are childlike- they cannot keep things bottled up.

Dark blue in excess makes you more active, however it will lead to fatigue. You would feel like a deflated balloon after being overly inflated (i.e. limp and lifeless). On the other hand, dark blue allows your brain to understand subtler concepts and meanings behind things.Deficiency of Vayu can lead to low activity, insufficient muscular movement and depression.

Excessive of Vayu can create High blood pleasure, anxiety, frequent urination, diarrhea, trembling, palpitation, Increase pain, can cause hemorrhages. The above can be treated by either tranquilizing or enhancing Vayu.

Agni (Fire)[Physical](Element.3) – Blue (Sky Blue or  Light Blue)

The sky blue color has a heating effect  It melts, burns, cooks and digests, analyses, changes shapes and colours. It melts blockages anywhere in your body and burns the toxicity/toxins.

whatever we eat is cooked at different levels by fire to make it. The extent of fire in our body determines the extent of digestion and assimilation of the various components in our food. As in the food, it is with the mental fire i.e. our brain. Is our mental fire sufficient or not? That is indicative of our wisdom or mental maturity. wisdom and discrimination (Vivek) is an attribute which is due to this fire.

Fire is life! There should be fire is your speech, your eyes, touch and your words. If there is fire in a speaker’s/ healer’s/teacher’s words, it will enter our brain and melt any blockage. How much of fire do we hold in our gaze when we look at something? What do we see, comprehend or understand? The extent of fire element within us determines this.

Ears, likewise, reflect our fire. Everybody listens differently. This means that we understand at different levels at different times.

Change of color anywhere in your body tells about different levels of fire: deficiency or excess. For e.g. dark circles, leukoderma, tanning is all instances of different levels of fire. Sudden change in shape of body or joints or enlargement of internal organs, fibroid s, cysts, fatty nodes are due to lack or excess of fire/heat in your body.
Enhancing fire in the brain semblance of a Slow learner will help the person improve in his/ her learning skills.

Jal (Water)[Physical](Element.4) – Green

Every fluid of your body is essentially water. The color green gives lubrication, liquidity, has a cooling down or a slowing down effect, makes things dull! Hence, its attributes are moist, softness, stickiness and cohesiveness, flowy, detoxifying and pleasantness.

Cohesion: without water or liquid you cannot join anything. If anything breaks, you need liquid stickiness to join them. This combines a larger life concept of ‘separation and union’. It is said that love can join and mend anything. The color green is thus, associated with love. We find that fluids have the essential qualities of coolness, calmness, flowing, and relationship(Contact or Connection). Hence relationship should also flow like a liquid because if it stops flowing, it stagnates and start to decay.

Pleasantness means the feeling you get living near water. Even looking at water makes you feel pleasant and calm.Less of Jal could mean no rhythm, improper circulation. In every joint of the body, there is a synovial fluid which is Jal that helps the joints for smooth movement. Similarly, if we take this concept into a struggled relationship which means there is no flow of affection between the individuals involved in the relationship and enhancing Jal can help build the relationship. The relationship will begin to connect again.

Dryness of skin, throat, dry stool, etc can be treated with Jal and excess of Jal can cause oedema. Tranquilizing Jal will help removing oedema.

Prithvi(Earth)[Physical](Element.5) – Yellow

Earth is heavy, hard and tough. Associated attributes are slow, solid, stable, dense and gross. Mother earth cares. So the element indicates care for everything. Stability is the essence. Solidity is solidity in your body, if something becomes solid in your body there can be a fibroid or a stone. Stability indicates support or support system in the body.

A Prithvi person is like a Good Samaritan. They are slow, however are perfectionists. They stick to their plans and work through to its completion. There is stubbornness in this element. Yellow gives strength. Unless you have stability you cannot have strength. Thus, hardness and toughness is Prithvi. It is our body weight, but it can also be the weight in our sentences. Its quality is slow.

A Prithvi element person will ask all possible questions, and follow instructions. They follow a process and bring stability and continuity to any project. They are nurturing and supportive, loyal and dependable. Less Prithvi element could lead to loose motion, prolapse, irregular periods etc.

Kaal(Time)[Metaphysical](Element.6) – Orange
Time and timing, sensitivity, nervous system.
Our feelings are attached to our various sense organs. To see, to taste,  to hear, or to touch and whatever we perceive is due to the nervous system of the body. It is termed as Kaal, as it regulates the timing in our body or the “organ clock” e.g. At what time do we sleep and for how long? The timing for meals, The timing for bowel movements,The timing of menstrual cycles,The timing of maturity and puberty, The timing of conception, birth and the overall lifecycle. Thus, a very significant part of our lives is defined by Time.

Sensitivity: Orange color can improve our sensitivity and our sense organs. Physical senses of sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste and all other nonphysical senses are affected by it.  However, if this sensitivity is too high, it gives us allergies. Hyper sensitivity, dust allergy etc., are excess of Kaal. Deficiency of Kaal is low sense of hearing, nose, and sight.

Disha(Direction)[Metaphysical](Element.7) – Red
This is the force or sense of direction in us. This force is inside every organ, blood vessel, everywhere. Everything has a direction.  Even when we look for information, we search outwards and when we receive answers, they are directed inwards. Now consider what would happen, If this direction reverses?  If this direction stops. If the pace of direction accelerates?

To illustrate this, consider what happens when our breakfast which is meant to travel downwards. comes up? Diarrhea. vomiting are instances of reversal of direction. Disha also impacts perception and our understanding of one another.Communication is a two—way process that requires both parties to follow the same direction. What happens when our directions clash, we have different points of view and biases? Communication becomes very difficult.

Some of the examples of shifting of direction include:
>> Addiction – chewing tobacco is addiction of stomach; Alcoholism,
>> Navel dislocation. (shifting of direction) — lack of balance,
>> Slip disc (shifting of direction) – misaligned spinal cord,
>> Space between the joints (especially, knees), Dislocated Joints .

Direction corrections are required in such cases.

Mann(Mind)[Metaphysical](Element.8) – Pink
Subtle metaphysical power of the Mind, possibly the strongest force in nature. Mann, the mind, this is the factor that ensures success in any kind of work whether it is physical, metaphysical or emotional.

The real satisfaction of any deed being done is in the Mann and nowhere else, neither in the body nor in the physical/metaphysical world. Once our mind is attracted to something – person, place or thing, it will seek and find satisfaction only in that thing. If we get what our Mann desires, we feel like a winner, satisfied and happy, and full of energy. On the contrary, if we fail to acquire what we desire, the illness starts to grip our minds and finally, ends with a physical manifestation.

Mann is the connection of our body with the external world. Our mind has a certain subtle power – It establishes a connection with whatever it Seeks and unless the mind is distracted, it achieves it.
Prayer meetings or fire sacrifices (hawanas) are organized to focus our collective minds into certain desirable outcomes. The entire ritual, of preparing ourselves before the hawan. focusing our thoughts on the chants and prayers and engaging in all the rituals that follow, fill us with a strong belief that the success will be achieved.

Just as the mind has power to change the outer world, it can also alter our inner world i.e. our internal organs. If we start exploring our body with our mind, we find an increase in activity in the parts that we concentrate upon.  It increases the energy of that area.

Conversely, it is good to remove our Mann from the places that pain or are diseased. Concentrating our Mann on the areas of pain will only serve to increase the affliction. Interestingly, if we remove our Mann from there (e.g. by Hypnosis) We feel no pain.  Most of the diseases are of the mind (maanasik rog), psychosomatic.

The power of Mann is affected by the color pink. All types of mental illness can be cured by using pink.
Hyperactive children can be calmed down by working on Mann.

Aatma(Soul)[Metaphysical](Element.9) – White

Aatma performs no action, however the presence of Aatma is imperative for everything to function. The difference between a living body and a dead body is because of this bio energy ‘Praan (Breath)’ or Aatma. The separation of this bio energy from the physical body is death. The energy system or the system of Aatma provided in this body by the nature bestows life. The basis of any metaphysical treatment is Aatma. It provides the energy through Mann or mind and mind takes energy from Aatma to each and every energy part of the body as required.

Therefore, any Medical system mentions that a particular part of the body is dead, it does not mean that it is completely dead, rather it means that the function in that part of the body is below the required level. So the energy of Aatma can be used to revive that part of the body again. “Aatma indicates new creation.

Tama(Nothingness or Darkness)[Metaphysical](Element.0 [10]) – Black
Absence of everything is Zero(0). It indicates darkness.

For any creation to happen, nothingness is required.  Like the proverb  “Necessity is the mother of invention”,  therefore, where ever there is zero, there is time and opportunity for new creation.  So the system of zero is everywhere in our body. Mainly, in the reproductive system to reproduce Your like Ones, it is also in every cell, blood, plasma, all tissues,….. In everything. Every time there is a creation of new cell or a tissue and this is the power of Tam. When there is damage in the cell the new one is produced(generated).

Generation is the key word.  This process of generation is faster in the first half of life cycle of a human, i.e., up to the age of 50 yrs of age and is referred to as the generative cycle and post 50 year begins the degenerative cycle and the cycle of creation tends to be slower.

With the help of Zero(Nothingness), we can create any tissue in the body or a body can reproduce it’s like ones.
